Canucks Trade Rumors 2022

Canucks Trade Defenseman Travis Hamonic to Senators for 2022 Third-Round Pick

Canucks Continue to Reshape Roster

Hamonic Departs After Two Seasons in Vancouver

The Vancouver Canucks have traded defenseman Travis Hamonic to the Ottawa Senators for a 2022 third-round pick, the team announced on June 25, 2022. The move comes after the Canucks signed Andrei Kuzmenko, a highly sought-after European free agent, earlier this offseason.

Hamonic, 31, spent two seasons in Vancouver, recording 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 90 regular season games. He also played a key role in the Canucks' run to the second round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

"We would like to thank Travis for his contributions to the Canucks organization," Canucks general manager Jim Rutherford said in a statement. "He is a veteran player who brought a lot of experience and leadership to our team. We wish him all the best in Ottawa."

The trade of Hamonic is part of a larger roster overhaul for the Canucks, who missed the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season in 2021-22. The team has already traded away Brock Boeser, Conor Garland, and Tyler Motte this offseason.

The Senators, on the other hand, are looking to rebound from a disappointing season of their own. They finished last in the NHL with a record of 28-43-11. The addition of Hamonic will provide some much-needed experience to their young defense.
